Basic Disc Jockey Packages

When trying to book a reputable Disc Jockey Service, the best way to do so is to find a company that you have seen before, been impressed with or been referred to. If you haven't seen a good DJ recently, ask your friends. You'll find the Internet & the Yellow Pages are a very useful tool.

How do you tell which one DJ is the best for you?  Most couples judge by price but remember, you get what you pay for. Rates in York Region & surrounding areas range from $300.00 to $1,700.00 for the evening. With such a price difference, it’s not uncommon for people to choose based on price as opposed to quality and service. If that's all that is in your budget then your choices are limited. There are several reasons some DJs cost more than others. They are usually worth it. A professional and experienced DJ is skilled in developing a fun and entertaining night right from the beginning of the reception.  Good DJ services will have everything planned out, and thus can quickly determine which music best suits your guests. They also tend to know proper etiquette and procedure for your type of wedding reception. Generally, DJs on the low end of the price scale are new in the business and trying to become established in the profession, tend to be inexperienced in reading a crowd and often use their home stereo and music. A cheap DJ with cheap rate service is no deal.

Putting everything into view. Your cost of DJ entertainment will be less than 8% of your total overall budget, yet the success of your evening will depend on the performance of your DJ.

Recently, a couple planned a $40,000.00 wedding and hired a $300.00 DJ and did not understand why everyone left before nine o’clock. Another couple working with a much tighter budget of $8,000.00 hired an excellent DJ for $700.00 and had an amazing reception because of the entertainment. So don't save money on your event by searching for the cheapest DJ they are the heart and soul of your evening. Cut back something, but not your entertainment. You will thank yourself later...

A professional DJ does not drink alcohol while on the job, and does not smoke while performing. Never hire a DJ who suggests you come to one of his or her wedding receptions to see them at work. Wedding receptions are private events and are not an appropriate advertising.  This is a sign of in-experience.

When you find a DJ with whom you feel comfortable, make an appointment for a consultation. (Consultations with a reputable DJ service should be free. A DJ who charges you for that, is one to stay away from).  If you get along well at the meeting it should be exemplified at your event. Do they provide a written agreement for their services? Ask to see references. The feedback from previous clients can be invaluable in assessing your prospective DJ's performance and abilities. Information offered at your consultation will provide you and your DJ with a comfort level that should ensure a great time for all.

Lastly, many disc jockey services push the number of songs they have in their music system. While variety is great the bottom line is your DJ will only be able to play 50-80 songs in the amount of dancing time available at a reception.  Having the right songs and knowing when to play them comes from experience and is a lot more important than having 30,000 titles your crowd doesn't want to hear. Homework and preplanning will make your wedding day the most memorable day of your life.
